Broken Welder

Broken Welder

I didn’t get too far, the welder stopped working. It’s and old Lincoln buzz box, it looked like the ground had been rigged to start with, and had a bad connection that finally failed. The ‘wire’ on the left is actually a solid aluminum rod that is the coil material. The ground lead has to connect directly to it. I finally decided how to fix it. I used a short piece of copper tube over the ground lead, put it in the vice with a piece of 1/4” rod to crimp it and formed the tubing around the rod to tighten it on the lead. You can see the remains of the old connection sitting on the coil at the top of the picture.
